Day 78

Day 78

#Football Study Abroad Day 78

Daniel’s classmates come from various countries: Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Dubai, the UK, Bermuda, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Germany, Norway, the United States, and more.

Before coming to the UK, we were most worried about bullying, but thankfully, it hasn’t happened. Whether it’s because there’s no language barrier or because of my son’s personality, Daniel has been getting along well with everyone and has made many friends. Maybe it’s the friendly nature of athletes; these 16- and 17-year-olds have all greeted me online. Several of them have even learned to say “Ni Hao” (“Hello” in Chinese). (Daniel calls me every day, and his roommates are often nearby. At first, I was worried they might tease him for being a “mama’s boy” and that he might get bullied, but over the past two months, everything has been fine.)

These young dream-chasers live on campus at the training camp. Since they don’t have transportation, they spend most of their time on-site. Outside of football practice, they play pool, watch matches, go to the gym, chat on voice-based apps (real conversations, not just texting), and sometimes take long walks in the nearby woods.

There’s a match scheduled every Wednesday. An interesting thing happened this week: Daniel unexpectedly ran into a senior from his high school in Taiwan. This senior had gone to the UK to play football half a year earlier. Last Wednesday, they faced off in a match, although Daniel wasn’t on the starting lineup that day, so his team played against Daniel’s other teammates.

Currently, the camp is accepting applications for next year’s summer program. Each session lasts two weeks and costs £1,999. If you register before the end of December, there’s a £99 discount. For boys aged 14 and up who are interested in training, improving their English, and making international friends, this is definitely worth considering.

With the recent drop in the pound exchange rate, the cost looks even more affordable now!
